Mother Accused of Leaving Son, 7, in Lego Store While Shopping

A 44-year-old mother was arrested after she allegedly left her 7-year-old son unattended in a Lego Store at a Long Island mall for more than an hour so she could shop at other stores, police say.

The mother was arrested Tuesday afternoon after the manager of the Lego Store store at Roosevelt Fields Mall in East Garden City noticed that the boy was by himself and called the mall's security office, according to Nassau County police.

Mall security called 911, and officers cuffed the mother when she came to pick up her son.

It was later determined that the boy had been in the store alone for 80 minutes, police say.

The mother is charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say the boy was released to a family member.

Neither the employee who notified mall security nor the store manager would comment on the arrest.
