Toddler Found Alone in NYC Park Reunited With Parents After Day Care Loses Him: Police

A 2-year-old boy who was found alone inside a Brooklyn park Thursday has been reunited with his parents after a day care lost him, police say.

The young boy was found in Sunset Park Playground around 1 p.m. and no one had claimed him by 4 p.m., prompting police to send a tweet asking for help locating the child's parents.

It turned out the boy named Ethan had been left at the park when his day care took a field trip with 14 other kids. A good Samaritan brought the boy to the 72nd Precinct station house, where he was later reunited with his mother, Diana Alvarado. He was in good condition.

Alvarado said it wasn't the tweet that informed her about her missing son.

"I found out by the day care, one of the supervisors there, she called me and told me he was in the precinct, so I was totally unaware of what was going on," she told NBC 4 New York.

She said the first thing she said as soon as she reunited with her son was, "My baby, my baby. Thank God you're OK."

Alvarado said Ethan, who is about to be a big brother, will not be returning to the day care and is going to stay with her from now on.

The day care, Quality of Life Academy, has no open complaints against them, and detectives were there Thursday night speaking with workers. No one picked up the phone at the center Thursday night, and a worker at the facility declined to comment.

Parents who have children enrolled at the center were shaken by the news. Karen Wu said she wants the school to inform parents what they'll do to ensure the same thing doesn't happen again in the future.

"I have to make sure my kid is going to be OK," she said.
