An apartment fire in Oak Lawn sent a firefighter to the hospital Sunday evening, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue. [[364081241,R]]
Initial reports stated the fire was sparked in the chimney of a 3-story apartment complex in the 4500 block of Gilbert Avenue in Oak Lawn.
Firefighters responded at 7:49 p.m. and could see fire coming from the top of the chimney. While battling the fire, officials said the floor gave way and a firefighter fell through to the level beneath.
After requesting a second alarm response and quickly pulling the firefighter out of the building, officials said they re-focused on extinguishing the fire.
The firefighter was taken to a local hospital with "a non-disclosed, but non-life threatening injury," according to Jason Evans, Dallas fire spokesman. He is expected to be released soon.
No residents were injured.
Investigators said the fire was accidental and was caused by a chimney malfunction.

At least three condominiums were rendered uninhabitable, displacing an unknown number of people. The American Red Cross assisted them.
