Donald Rumsfeld Launches War-Themed Solitaire Gaming App

Former White House Chief of Staff Donald Rumsfeld has developed a video game app called Churchill Solitare.

The game is a variation on solitaire that, according to Rumsfeld, was devised by British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill and played with a young protégé named André de Staercke during World War II. Staercke later became a NATO diplomat and taught the game to Rumsfeld in the 1970s.

Rumsfeld said he was afraid the game, which has a World War II theme and is set against a backdrop of air-raid sirens and historical newspaper clippings, would be "lost to the ages" if he didn't keep it alive.

The 83-year-old's late foray into the gaming world has chalked up 4.5/5 customer rating in the App Store. The app is free to download but includes in-game purchases. Rumsfeld and the Churchill family's profits are going to charity.
