Driver Plows Car Into Troops Guarding French Mosque

A 29-year-old driver was shot after plowing his car into a group of soldiers guarding a French mosque on New Year's Day, NBC News reported.

The man, a French resident of Tunisian descent, seems to have acted alone, authorities said. There is no evidence to suggest he was linked to a terrorist group, although the prosecutor in Valence, France, said he reportedly shouted, "Allah is great."

A soldier and Muslim man suffered minor injuries. Troops shot the driver in the arm and legs.

The prosecutor said the man lives in a suburb of Lyon, about 60 miles from Valence, and was visiting family there for the holidays.
