2 Killed, 24 Injured in Holiday Weekend Chicago Shootings

An 11-year-old was grazed by a bullet Sunday night when two men opened fire during a party

A backyard barbecue on Chicago's South Side turned into a crime scene Sunday when police said two men opened fire, hitting four party-goers, including an 11-year-old girl.

Police said the young girl was grazed by a bullet around 10:45 p.m. at a birthday party in the 9100 block of South Chappel Avenue.  A 16-year-old boy, 18-year-old boy and a 51-year-old woman also were struck. All victims were listed in good condition.

The injuries marked another violent Chicago weekend with two people killed and 24 injured in shootings since Friday night.

A block away from the barbecue earlier in the day, a man was found dead in a car parked in an elementary school parking lot. Police said the man had crack cocaine in his hand when he was found murdered.

In response to these shootings and the 55 people killed in August, Mayor Rahm Emanuel insisted on Sunday the city is not in a crisis.

"We're making efforts I think to reduce the gang conflict, because it's gang-on-gang issues," Emanuel said on "Meet the Press." "It doesn't affect the whole city, but anywhere it happens we're going to be dealing with it."

"Overall crime," he said, "is down 10 percent."

Police continue to search for the two men who opened fire at the barbecue.
