Woman Found Dead in NJ Apartment Had Been There At Least 1 Day: Authorities

A woman was found dead in a New Jersey apartment Friday afternoon, and authorities say her husband has been arrested in connection with the death.

Police were called to do a welfare check at Luisa Pleger's apartment in the Riverview Garden Apartments in North Arlington and found the 45-year-old's body inside. It appeared that she had been dead for at least a day, prosecutors say.

Her husband, 47-year-old Eric Pleger, was found inside the home as well and was taken into custody at the scene.

Pleger been charged with first-degree murder and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, prosecutors said. Pleger remains in Bergen County Jail on $2 million bail.

Attorney information for Pleger wasn't immediately available.

A medical examiner will determine a cause of death for Luisa Pleger.

It's North Arlington's the first homicide in at least 24 years, according to local police. Neighbors were stunned.

"It's quiet, everybody is friendly with each other, all the neighbors know each other around here, so to hear about something like this, it's a real shock to all of us," said resident Robert Sclano.

"Everybody knows everybody, it's just somethings that's very, very out of the norm," said John Milazzo. "It's just surprising for something to happen in your own backyard, and when you have children, it's a little frightening."
