Driver Captures Dramatic 18-Wheeler Crash on Camera

No injuries reported and no other vehicles involved in I-635 crash, officials say.

A Fort Worth man captured on video the dramatic moments when a big rig lost control and slid across a highway.

On Wednesday afternoon, Ryan Rife and his co-worker, Ryan Johnson, were driving to lunch near Interstate 635 and MacArthur Boulevard in Irving. While stopped at a stop sign, they witnessed an 18-wheeler lose control and go sliding across the highway on its side at about 12:15 p.m.

NBC 5 viewer Ryan Rife sent this video of an 18-wheeler jackknifing on Interstate 635 Wednesday morning.

"I actually saw the truck tire turn very sharply, and I had a feeling that was a dead giveaway for the truck to maybe have some issues there," Rife told NBC 5.

"Once the truck hit the ground he slid pretty fast. It was almost like NASCAR, going crazy," he said.

Rife's dash camera captured the big rig's trailer tipping over, then quickly pulling the cab down with it.

After that, the truck goes sliding down the road for hundreds of feet before coming to a rest across eastbound lanes of I-635 traffic.

"I was just thinking, 'Lord Jesus, there's going to be a fire.' Things flipped over, spinning, there are sparks," Johnson said.

Johnson said somehow the driver of the 18-wheeler crawled out of a window and walked away within seconds of the crash. He was not injured, police later said.

"As soon as it happened we were like, 'Oh, my goodness, we need to see if he's okay. What's going to happen?" Johnson said.

Not only that, but the 18-wheeler didn't touch any other cars in the crash.

"I was really thinking it was going to be much worse than it was. I was thinking it was going to be a pile-up," Rife said.

Officers are investigating the cause of the crash.

All lanes of eastbound I-635 were back open by about 4 p.m.
