A Cook County juvenile court judge ordered the teen charged with mugging Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s teenaged son be held in custody, given the boy’s frequent contact with law enforcement.
Judge Lori Wolfson noted that the teen had frequent contact with the court system. He has been arrested 11 times, and has had 32 contacts with Chicago police, authorities said. He also was found guilty in October of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and was sentenced to one year of probation.
The teen suspect was arrested Saturday, accused of mugging Zach Emanuel, 17, near his Ravenswood home in December.
The suspect, now 18, was 17 at the time of the mugging and is being charged as a juvenile; his name has not been released.
Zach Emanuel was walking in his neighborhood and talking on his phone on Dec. 19 when two muggers attacked him, police say.
They put him in a chokehold, punched him in the face and knocked him to the ground, forcing him to drop his phone, before they took the phone and patted him down, asking, "What else you got?" police say.
Zach sustained injuries that required medical treatment, a spokesperson for the mayor said.

His parents left juvenile court Monday without comment.
