Man Kidnapped Woman to Sell for Sex: State Police

Connecticut state police have arrested a Massachusetts man who they say kidnapped a woman in New York and tried to bring her to Rhode Island to force her into prostitution.

The victim was able to alert police by sending a text message about the abduction. She texted that they were in a black Kia SUV with Connecticut plates, traveling north on Interstate 395 in Putnam, police said.

State police from Connecticut and Massachusetts located and stopped the car on I-395 in Thompson, Conn.

The victim ran from the car and toward a police cruiser.

Police took Kwamaine Well, 24, of Brockton, Massachusetts, into custody and charged him with second-degree kidnapping, illegal possession of narcotics and disorderly conduct.

Police said he has prior arrests for trafficking people for sex servitude and carrying a firearm.

Wells was held on $100,000 bond.  He is due in court in Danielson today.
