Man Shot After West Side Carjacking

Police say man was shot , before suspect took his van

A man sitting in his van at a Lawndale gas station was shot during a carjacking late Sunday night, according to police.

Police say the 28-year-old victim was in his Chevy Burgundy van parked at a gas station at Harrison Street and Independence Boulevard around 11 p.m. when he was approached by a man holding a handgun.

The offender then forced the victim to get out of the the van, and went through the victim's pockets demanding money, police say.

The suspect shot the victim in the lower left leg and took off with the victim's van, according to police.

The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital. The offender is has not been caught and Area North detectives are investigating the shooting.
