Million Moms March Demands End to Police Brutality

Mothers from around the country are in D.C. for a somber march against police brutality.

The inaugural Million Moms March supported women who've lost children at the hands of police officers.

They gathered at John Marshall Park in Judiciary Square and marched along Constitution Avenue to the Department of Justice to present their demands before returning to the park for a program that concluded about 2:30 p.m.

“Enough is enough,” said Marion Gray-Hopkins, whose 19-year-old son Gary was killed by a police officer in Prince George’s County in 1999. “We need to put about some changes in laws and practices that will stop the senseless killing of our unarmed children.”

Maria Hamilton of Milwaukee helped lead the effort. Her son, 31-year-old Dontre Hamilton, was fatally shot April 30, 2014. His family says Dontre Hamilton suffered from mental illness but was not violent.

Supporters of the march lobbied on Capitol Hill Friday morning before gathering in John Marshall Park Friday afternoon.
