Mother Accused of Ripping Son's Genitals Pleads “Not Guilty”

A South Texas woman accused of ripping her 6-year-old son's genitals in anger and trying to repair the wound with glue has pleaded not guilty.

The San Antonio Express-News reports the woman's lawyer on Monday filed a waiver of arraignment and she didn't appear in court. She's charged with assault in the Sept. 27 incident at the family's home at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston.

Investigators say the father, who's in the Army, returned from work and found his injured son. The boy underwent surgery and remains with his father.

The woman was arrested Oct. 23 and opted to remain in jail pending trial. She's also pleaded not guilty to a drunken driving charge from a June incident.

Investigators have not said why she allegedly hurt the boy.
