PortMiami Welcomes Carnival's Largest Cruise Ship

Carnival Cruise Line’s newest and largest cruise ship can now call the city of Miami home.

PortMiami welcomed the Carnival Vista as it sailed into South Florida on Sunday to kick off a year-round schedule of cruises to the Caribbean.

"The arrival of new and innovative cruise ships such as Carnival Vista helps solidify our place as a global hub for travel and tourism, vital to the continual growth and development of our community," said Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, in a press release.

The cruise industry contributed nearly $8 billion to Florida’s economy in 2014, and is expected to increase in 2015 and 2016 as a result of new ships and added destinations, according to the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association.

Among destinations for the "innovative" cruise ship include Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Aruba, and more island getaways.

The Carnival Vista takes cruising to a new level with its groundbreaking features including the world’s first IMAX Theatre on a ship, massive aqua park and an on-ship brewery.
