Rain, Snow, Arctic Winds, Plus a Historically Cold NFL Playoff Game

Sunday's NFL playoff could be one of the coldest on record, forecasters said as a bone-chilling winter weather system brought snow, rain and even a destructive tornado to the eastern half of the nation, NBC News reported.

Temperatures as low as two degrees below zero are forecast for Minneapolis, where the Seahawks are due to play the Vikings, and strong and biting arctic winds could make it feel as cold as minus 20.

It comes as the Midwest braced for up to one foot of lake effect snow and the Northeast prepared for lashing rain and gusting winds, according to the Weather Channel.

In Florida, residents were clearing up after a twister packing winds of 111-135mph uprooted palm trees and power lines, tossed cars and tore roofs from homes in Cape Coral, south of Tampa. The National Weather Service gave the tornado a preliminary rating of EF2, but there were no early reports of casualties.
