$2K Reward Offered For Safe Return of Widow's Stolen Love Letters

Rosaleen Rickerby, 80, was devastated when she found her home had been ransacked and her letters stolen

Thieves stole a wedding ring and treasured love letters from the Southern California home of a widow whose family is offering a $2,000 reward for anyone who returns the items.

Rosaleen Rickerby, 80, was devastated when she found her Glendale home had been ransacked last week, with her husband John's ring and cash among the items taken. But it was the loss of dozens of love letters, which dated back to the 1950s, that hurt her family most of all.

Her son Mark has been driving around and sifting the trash in nearby alleys hoping to find a discarded case of letters. The reward for the letter was offered with no questions asked, according to the family.

"My son always wanted to read those letters. I'm sorry I didn't give them to him earlier, but you don't think anybody's going to come in and steal (them)," Rickerby said.

She met future husband in Belfast, Northern Ireland when she was 17 and he was 18. They later reunited in Canada, where they married, before moving to the U.S. He died in December after a five-year battle with Parkinson's disease.
