Trump Administration Considers Ending ‘Dreamer' Protections: Officials

The Trump administration ended another Obama-era immigration program which protected parents of U.S. citizens from deportation in June

President Donald Trump is considering canceling the Obama-era immigration program intended to protect hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from deportation, administration officials said Friday, NBC news reported.

The Department of Homeland Security sent a recommendation to the White House earlier this week on how to process on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, the officials said. Trump is considering phasing out the program or ending it immediately, but the officials said it is unclear which option Trump will choose.

More than 800,000 are now covered by the policy and can legally apply for work permits. Around 200,000 young people have sought DACA status since Trump became president, immigrant rights groups say.
