WATCH: Gorilla Family Picks Name for New Baby

The top three submissions — Aziza, Kianga and Makemba — were placed on boxes containing peanuts and turnips in the gorillas' habitat on Friday.

A baby gorilla got a new name with the help of her family on Friday.

After Kiki, one of seven western Iowland gorillas at Boston's Franklin Park Zoo, gave birth on May 14, the zoo and New England Cable News turned to the Web for suggestions on what to call the zoo's newest addition. Thousands weighed in, but the final decision was left to Kiki and her other children.

The top three submissions — Aziza, Kianga and Makemba — were placed on boxes containing peanuts and turnips in the gorillas' habitat on Friday.

One of the baby gorilla's siblings barreled toward the a box on the far end of the area Friday morning, choosing Aziza as the winner. The name means "highly esteemed, precious."

After the naming fanfare was over, the gorillas enjoyed breakfast as a family.
