Mom Left Young Kids Alone to Go Clubbing: Police

She said she wanted to have fun after being home with them all week.

A Bridgeport mom was charged yesterday, accused of leaving her three children at home so she could go clubbing Saturday night into early Sunday morning.

Police said Mycheral Walker, 35, left her 1- and 4-year-old daughters and 13-year-old son alone at their Boston Avenue home while she went out for the night.

She told police she went to the L&A Social Club, an after-hours club on Stratford Avenue in Bridgeport, to have fun since she had been home with the kids all week.

It's not clear if Walker had asked her son to look after the younger two.

"Sometimes it's hard for a 13-year-old to watch two other kids," said neighbor Henry Timberlake, "because the 13-year-old is still a child himself."

Walker was charged with three counts of risk of injury to a minor. She posted bond and is due in court next month.

Police said the state Department of Children and Families is involved and the children are in the care of the mother's friends.

Neighbors said Walker might have been better off asking family or friends to help take care of her children.

"It won't hurt you to ask for help at all," said Christine Matthews of Bridgeport. "And maybe this is a wake-up call for her. Maybe next time she'll ask for help."

Court records show Walker was sentenced to six months in jail and released on conditional discharge in 2008 following a second-degree breach of peace conviction.
