PBCS: An “Act of Valor” Kills at Box Office

While Hollywood was busy trotting out movie stars and handing out awards to movies you aren't going to see, Americans still attended theaters this weekend, plunking down their hard-earned money for "Act of Valor," the action movie that stars real Navy SEALS. I was hoping they'd kill bin Laden on screen, but I was left disappointed. Anyway, here are your box office receipts (chart via Box Office Mojo).

1. Act of Valor - $24.7M
2. Tyler Perry's Good Deeds - $16.0M
3. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island - $13.5M
4. Safe House - $11.4M
5. The Vow - $10.0M
6. Ghost Rider 2 - $8.8M
7. This Means War - $8.5M
8. Wanderlust - $6.6M
9. Gone - $5.0
10. The Secret World Of Arrietty - $3.7M

You'll notice that Jennifer Aniston's "Wanderlust" was a huge flop, barely cracking the top ten.Could it be we've reached the point where people enjoy reading about Aniston more than they actually like SEEING or HEARING her? Keep her at arm's length, to look at pictures of her smiling with her mouth open, with a headline next to it that contains the word BITTER or PREGNANT. The SEALS gave Aniston, and Amanda Seyfried's huge eyes a thorough beatdown.

Also, take a look at "Journey 2," a movie that's shown incredible staying power, given that I wasn't even aware it was a sequel to something until two weeks ago. This has remained a strong February at the box office, and I wish the quality of the movies lived up to those big returns. Now, time to throw everything into our little PBCS formula and see what happens.

1. The Artist - 749
2. The Descendants - 312
3. Act of Valor - 217
4. Chronicle - 152
5. Good Deeds - 97
6. The Secret World Of Arrietty - 88
7. The Woman In Black - 51
8. Safe House - 42
9. The Vow - 41
10. Journey 2 - 35

I'm as sick of the top two movies in these standings as you are, but fear not. The Oscars have come and gone and they'll now go away swiftly. I promise. I don't want the Oscar stink lingering any longer than it has to.
