Jesse Eisenberg & Mia Wasikowska Will Have You Seeing “The Double”

Jesse Eisenberg and Mia Wasikowska have signed on to star in Richard Ayoade's adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's tragic-comic novella, "The Double," reported Deadline.

The story centers on a meek, unassuming government clerk, Yakov Petrovich Golyadkin, who is driven to madness by the appearance in his office of a man who is his exact double in physical appearance. What sets this doppelganger apart is his brash, confident, outgoing personality, which are the very opposite of Golyadkin. Think "Fight Club."

We like the casting of Eisenberg for this role, as it will force him to play against the introverted types that he's usually attracted to. We don't know the work well enough to speculate as to what Wasikowska's role will be. In addition to directing, Ayoade co-wrote the script with Avi Korine (brother of Harmony). While you wait for the film to come together, feel free to read the book online in either English or Russian.

Ayoade made his directorial debut last year with "Submarine," a hilariously charming coming-of-age indie comedy about a teenage busy trying to save his parents' marriage and lose his virginity before his 16th birthday.
