Charlie Sheen's “Anger Management” Gets 90 Episode Renewal

FX network gives sitcom a big return following ratings success.

FX announced Monday that Charlie Sheen's "Anger Management" has been reordered for another 90 episodes, with the sitcom returning to screens in January.

As part of a deal between FX and Lionsgate Television Group, "Anger Management" was required to hit a ratings threshold over the course of its initial 10 episode run before the 90 episode continuation deal would get the green light. The Sheen vehicle delivered 4.53 million viewers during its first nine weeks on air. Of that number 2.5 million fell in the coveted 18-49 demographic. FX says the show is the network's highest-rated new comedy series this year.

“We set a very high ratings bar that included some additional hurdles for "Anger Management" to earn its back-90 order and the series met and exceed those metrics,” said FX Networks EVP Chuck Saftler, Wednesday. “[Showrunner] Bruce Helford has created a sitcom that works extremely well in our pre-10 p.m. programming lineup. Charlie Sheen and the entire cast did an amazing job in the first ten episodes, which were produced in a very tight window. I have no doubt that the producers and cast will be able to pull off the Herculean task of producing 90 episodes over the next two years."

Actor Martin Sheen (Charlie's real-life dad) will reprise his role as Charlie's father on the show, appearing in some 20 of the 90 episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show co-stars Selma Blair and Shawnee Smith.

Charlie Sheen became the star of "Anger Management" after his dismissal from the popular CBS sitcom "Two and a Half Men" last year, following a very public meltdown and spat with its creator Chuck Lorre. In "Management," Sheen plays Charlie Goodson, a non-traditional therapist who specializes in anger management treatment.
