Secret Service Requests $8M Replica White House

The Secret Service wants $8 million to build a replica of the White House for training purposes, Secret Service Director Joseph Clancy said Tuesday. Clancy told a House Appropriations subcommittee that a mock-up of the Executive Mansion — proposed to be built in Bethesda Maryland, 20 miles from the real one — would be help agents train more efficiently. Training is currently conducted in a parking lot, Clancy said. The request comes amid a string of embarrassing security lapses at the White House, including one last year when a fence-jumper made it into the president's residence.
