Waitress Awarded $250K for Racial Discrimination Over Hair

A former Hooters waitress was awarded $250,000 after finding that racial discrimination contributed to her getting fired from the franchise. Farryn Johnson, who is African-American, was fired from the Baltimore restaurant in 2013 because "Hooters prohibits African-American Hooters Girls from wearing blond highlights in their hair," according to the lawsuit. Johnson's manager told her should couldn't work with blond streaks because it didn't look "natural" on African-Americans, the suit said. Johnson claimed her shifts were cut and that she received written warning about her hair, and then ultimately, she was fired. Hooters criticized the ruling on its website, claiming the restaurant never told Johnson she couldn't wear her hair in a certain way.
