General Hospital Star John Ingle Dead at 84

His former costars tweeted their condolences

John Ingle, star of the ABC daytime drama "General Hospital," died Sunday at the age of 84.

On Monday, Ingle's family posted on Facebook in memory of the beloved father figure and thesp: "Father, Husband, Grandan, Great Grandan, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Teacher, Inspirer, Mentor: May You Soar with the Angels. You will forever hold a special place in the deepest corners of our hearts."

General Hospital wins at the Daytime Emmys!

Frank Valentini, executive producer of the daytime soap, also took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the passing of the star that brought his scheming character Edward Quartermaine to "G.H." for two decades:

"With great sadness, I share the news of John Ingle's passing. We love him and will miss him. John will always be a part of the #GH family."

And Ingle's "General Hosptial" costars are also expressing their grief over the passing of the beloved thesp:

"John Ingle my dear friend, so full of love kindness generosity &humor I will miss u dearly love and deep condolences 2 his beautiful family," John J. Work, who plays Mac Scorpio on the show, wrote on his Twitter page.

"RIP John Ingle. You were so amazingly sweet and big hearted. The world lost a great man, but heaven gained one," Chad Duell, who plays Michael Corinthos III, tweeted.

Ingle made his final appearance on the show just last week. In addition to "General Hospital," Ingle also appeared in other television soap operas including "Melrose Place," "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "Days of Our Lives."

John's wife, Grace-Lynne Martin, passed away in February 2012. The couple had five children together.
