Snow, Freezing Rain Threaten Midwest, Northeast

Drivers in New England, the Northeast and parts of the Midwest faced a slippery morning and possibly afternoon commute as a winter weather system causing sleet and freezing rain across the U.S. made its way east, NBC News reported. Winter storm watches are posted from Massachusetts through the Ohio Valley and as far west as Missouri. In northern New England, upstate New York and along Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, some cities could see 3 inches of snow. A glaze of ice up to a quarter-inch thick, more than enough to be dangerous, could cover roads, The Weather Channel reported. The icy weather should let up in some places as temperatures rise later Monday, although rain is forecast to continue throughout the day.
