“Jersey Shore's” Sammi and Ronnie Call it Quits

It was never a "shore" thing, but the relationship between two of New Jersey's most famous, fist-pumping stars is over.

Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola and Ronnie Magro are finally calling it quits, reports US.

"They are done," according to a source close to the couple who spoke with the magazine, adding that there was "major tension" as they helped promote the show's third season, the premiere of which set a ratings record for MTV.

The two first felt sparks during the course of the show's first season in 2009. The relationship, which was a central part of the show, was often combative and withstood Ronnie's various hookups with other women during the reality hit's second season in Miami.

But it seems like Magro's ready to move on. He referred to himself as "Single Ronnie" in a Twitter posting last week.

Fellow cast mate Pauly D said he was happy that Magro was free of the relationship.

"I love single Ronnie. When he's doing the relationship thing, I let him do this thing. I don't get involved," he told US. "When he's with Sammi he's a different person. She's a difficult woman!"

Giancola also took to social media to mark the split, albeit in a more subtle - though no less public - fashion: according to Entertainment Tonight, Sammi has removed all of Ronnie's friends from her Facebook page.
