Joan Collins: A Fabulous Beverly Hills Auction

Dresses and more from the dame's collection go on the block in Beverly Hills.

We often look to our movie and television stars for sartorial inspiration, but we also seek out their style for living life, conquering the predictable dips, and being outrageously fabulous.

Audrey Hepburn gave those fans looking for a gamine approach much to work with, and Judy Garland schooled plenty of people on the nature of pluck. And Dame Joan Collins? Few famous people have done sheer fabulousness as well, or as easily. Who sashays into a room as well as Ms. Collins, and with such polished power?

The performer, who dominated on the TV series "Dynasty" throughout much of the 1980s, has a sparkly frock or two in her personal collection, you will not be surprised to learn. And some of those gowns, and other articles, went to auction in Beverly Hills on Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Standouts on the block include "outstanding couture dresses from the 1960s, screen worn costumes, designer fashions and accessories, jewelry, career memorabilia, decorative art, furniture and personal items," too.

A pair of "vintage Louis Vuitton steamer trunks" will go to the highest bidding globetrotter, as well as "a couture halter dress worn to the 'Doctor Doolittle' premiere."

Want to eye everything? There's video at the Julien's Auctions site.

Want to learn to sashay into a room with pure fabulousness? A "Dynasty" re-watch may up your Joan-a-tude exponentially.

Want to see a beautifully emotional turn, among many, by Dame Collins? Her splashy '80s-era looks get much press, but spend an hour with the original "Star Trek" series, and the episode "The City on the Edge of Forever." It's a performance that's legendary in sci-fi pop culture, and one that held a different sort of allure, one that's both heartache-y and thought-provoking.

Few actresses are as memorable, both in person and on the screen. For a peek at the auction, sashay this way, and don't forget your stole and your sheer strength.
