Fuel-Free Plane to Complete Journey Across America

A solar-powered plane flew out of Washington, D.C., on Saturday and is headed for New York City during the final leg of its travel across the United States, according to NBC News. The airplane, called Solar Impulse, is the first plane able to fly day and night without fuel. The aircraft creates and absorbs energy with solar panels and batteries, continuously storing energy as it travels. The lightweight plane generates as much power as a small scooter. The plane's flight is being live streamed online, providing up-to-date information about its altitude and speed.
