Jobless Claims Dip

The number of Americans filing for unemployment dipped lower last week to a one-month low, a sign that the labor market may not be so bad off as feared, Bloomberg News reported. Claims for jobless benefits dropped by 1,000 to 367,000, the Labor Department said. Economists surveyed by Reuters had forecast claims inching up to 369,000. Coming after the Labor Department reported sluggish employment gains on Friday, the new numbers are “consistent with decent job growth but certainly not blockbuster,” Pierpont Securities LLC economist told Bloomberg.
