Lady Gaga's Album Sells 1.11 Million in First Week

With around 650,000-700,000 copies on the first day

Little Monsters aren’t kidding around.

In only a week’s time, Lady Gaga’s album “Born This Way” has sold 1.11 million albums, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Not since Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now” last November has a pop artist experienced such wild sales (Swit’s album sold 1.04 million last November). Lady Gaga’s album is only the 17th album to sell that many copies, at least since SoundScan began recording sales data in 1991.

Not since 50 Cent’s album “The Massacre” have sales been so high. The rapper sold approximately 1.14 million copies in March 2005. Lady Gaga’s the fifth woman to hold this record.

This far exceeded estimates. Gaga’s record company, Universal Music Group, was expecting a first week total of around 400,000 sales.

But with the somewhat flubbed 99-cent offering on Amazon, the number climbed to a staggering 700,000 on the first day alone.

The all-time record remains with the 2000 release of 'NSYNC's "No Strings Attached," which sold a staggering 2.42 million in its debut week.
