Michael Moore: I Would Never Buy a Share of Stock

Michael Moore is a member of the 1% but said he’s against “making money off your money.” In a blog post titled “Life Among the 1%” on his website, the Oscar-winning filmmaker and prominent Occupy Wall Street supporter defends having earned his wealth “the old school, honest way by making things.” After Warner Bros. gave him $3 million to distribute his first movie, “Roger and Me,” Moore writes that he vowed never to invest in the stock market. He divided the windfall by first paying Uncle Same $1 million in taxes then endowing a charity foundation with $1 million. For his last $1 million, Moore paid off old debts and gave away more money to family members and charities, he writes. He also bought a new car and took out a mortgage on a New York City apartment. “What remained went into a simple, low-interest savings account,” Moore said.
