“SNL” Alum Will Forte Cast in Sitcom Pilot

The "MacGruber" star will headline Fox's "Rebounding"

"Saturday Night Live" alumnus Will Forte — the comic talent behind the MacGyver send-up "MacGruber" — is slated to headline Fox's single-camera sitcom pilot "Rebounding," Deadline Hollywood reported.

Forte will star as Danny, a middle-aged guy coping with the sudden death of his fiance with the help of the dunderheads on his pickup basketball team.

The project, written and co-created by Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, will be executive produced by "Modern Family" honcho Steven Levitan. The series is inspired by Port's real-life experiences, according to Vulture.

Since Forte left "SNL" in 2010, he has been a familiar face on the sitcom landscape. The 41-year-old actor has recurring roles on NBC's "30 Rock" and "Up All Night" and has guest-appeared on "Parks and Recreation."

Forte currently has a supporting role in the avant-garde comedy "Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie" and will soon appear in Adam Shankman's "Rock of Ages" and Akiva Schaffer's "Neighborhood Watch," co-starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, and Jonah Hill.

Jason Winer, a "Modern Family" regular, will direct the "Rebounding" pilot.
