Stephen Colbert Riffs On Obama's Fallon Stint

The late-night appearance was a "pathetically successful ploy to be appealing."

On Thursday's edition of "The Colbert Report," Stephen Colbert tackled President Obama's much-hyped Tuesday appearance on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon."

The appearance, in Colbert's mind, was Obama's attempt to recapture the hearts and minds of young people, a key demographic that helped carry then-Senator Obama to victory in the 2008 presidential contest.

Back then, Colbert said, Obama "had the kids in the palm of his hand." But since then, Colbert joked, "Mister Fresh-Faced Hopey-Changey" has "become Old Grey-Hair Grandpa [who] didn't close Gitmo" in the eyes of young voters.

Colbert mock-attacked Obama's Fallon stint as "a pathetically successful ploy to be appealing."

Many of the pundits at Fox News took less ironic jabs at the President for his late-night gig, which Colbert's crack video team assembled into a montage.

Ultimately, Colbert joked, the allegiance of young people in Decision 2012 will come down to one factor: "Who do I like: the guy I like or the guy I don't like?"
