Students Boo Santorum Over Gay Marriage

Rick Santorum got a tough reception from college students Thursday in debating gay marriage during a campaign stop in Concord, N.H. Gay marriage is legal in the Granite State, and Santorum was asked why he did not think equality meant allowing same-sex couples to marry, The New York Times reported. The GOP presidential contender spent nearly 10 minutes in a back-in-forth, arguing that same-sex marriage would open the door to marriages between multiple partners and would harm society. After one student cited a right to happiness, Santorum responded, “If you’re not happy unless you’re married to five other people, is that okay?” Many in the crowd booed his response and continued booing after he left the stage.
