OK, So Maybe “Men in Black III” Won't Be a Total Waste

The first "Men in Black" was pretty good. The second one was unnecessary. The third is assembling a cast that might make it a worthwhile endeavor.

Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Jemaine Clement, Josh Brolin and Emma Thompson are already on board for "MIB III." Now Gemma Arterton, Alec Baldwin and Sharlto Copley are in talks to join the film as well, according to Pajiba.

"MIB III" will see Smith and Jones travel back in time to 1969, where they'll (hopefully) encounter Baldwin as the head of MIB and Arterton as a secretary there. Copley would play a "fast-talking Yoda type."

The casting of Baldwin as the young/predecessor to Rip Torn's Agent Zed is genius. The corporate boob shtick those two had going on "30 Rock" as Jack Donaghy and Don Geiss was magic. If they could just drop that sycophantic climber dynamic into "MIB III," it would go a long way toward making it watchable.

As for Arterton, we loved her in "The Disappearance of Alice Creed," and are all in favor of nay projects that move her away from the swords-and-sandals nonsense she got caught up in this summer.

And Copley, who probably deserved an Oscar nomination for his work last year in "District 9," showed legitimate comic chops in "The A-Team." None of you saw it, so you'll have to take our word for it.
