State Police Dog Found Safe and Sound

"You tell a bloodhound to stop, the bloodhound says, ‘I’m on a scent right now so you’re going to have to catch up with me,” trooper says

A missing state police bloodhound was found safe and sound Friday morning, according to state police.

Texas, a police K9, had been missing in Danbury since Wednesday.

The bloodhound was brought in Wednesday evening to help search for a missing man and Texas became separated from his handler when the officer slipped and fell, letting go of the leash.

A search for Texas didn't turn up anything on Thursday, but he was found shortly after the search resumed on Friday morning.

The man who found Texas, Jeff Kehlenbach, of Homeland Security,  told state police that Texas was stuck on a fence when he found him.

State police tweeted a video of Texas just after he was found.

Danbury police reached out to state police around 6 p.m. Wednesday for help to find a man who was missing in the area of Wooster Mountain. The State Police K9 Search and Rescue Teams, state police bloodhound teams and a state police helicopter responded to help.

K9 Zeus found the man, who was walked out of the woods.

But during the search, a state police handler lost his footing in steep terrain and lost “possession” of K9 Texas’ 15-foot leash.

K9 Texas was pulling strongly up the slope, continued tracking up the ledge and was nowhere in sight when the trooper reached the top of the hill, state police said.

“You tell a Shepherd stop, our shepherds stop. You tell a bloodhound to stop, the bloodhound says, ‘I’m on a scent right now so you’re going to have to catch up with me,” Trooper Kelly Grant said.
