Poll: Plurality of Americans Support Abortion Restrictions After 20 Weeks

A plurality of Americans support efforts to ban abortions after 20 weeks, assuming the mother's life isn't in immediate danger, according to the newest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. Fourty-four percent of respondents to the poll said they support banning abortions that take place 20 weeks after fertilization, while 37 percent oppose it. Texas was the latest state to pass laws restricting the abortions after that time, joining 11 other states across the nation that have passed similar laws. Americans continue to be split on the issue of abortion, with 49 percent believing it should be legal either always or most of the time, and 48 percent say it should be illegal with exceptions or banned altogether.
