Relive Ashton Eaton’s Decathlon Gold

Ashton Eaton has defended his Olympic decathlon title, equaling the games record with a surge on the last lap of the 1,500 meters -- the last event in the two-day competition. Relive Eaton's two-day highlights, event by event.

Ashton Eaton started the decathlon by running the 100m. He finished second overall with a time of 10.46 seconds.

Eaton followed that up by finishing first in the long jump with a distance of 7.94 meters.

The third event for Eaton was the shot put. He finished sixth with a throw of 14.73 meters.

The fourth event: the high jump. Eaton finished sixth with a jump of 2.01 meters.

Eaton won the next event, the 400m race, in a time of 46.07 seconds.

Eaton finished second in the sixth event, the 110m hurdles, with a time of 13.80 seconds.

The seventh event: the discus throw. He finished third with a distance of 45.49 meters.

Pole vault was the eighth event, and Eaton finished fourth with a height of 5.20 meters.

The next to last event was the javelin. It was Eaton's lowest finish of all of the events. He came in 11th place with a throw of 59.77 meters.

Eaton finished his decathlon with the 1500m run. His closest competitor had to beat him by 7 seconds in order to take gold. It didn't happen. Eaton blew by the silver medalist and ended the race in third place with a time of 4:23.33 to secure gold. (Watch the run here.)
