Script for “24” Movie Is No Bueno, My Friends

Your wait for a feature-film version "24" just got extended.

Twentieth Century Fox has rejected a script for the film from Billy Ray ("State of Play") that was to pick up where the show left off in May 2010.

"As far as I know, (the "24" movie) is in suspended animation,”  Howard Gordon, executive producer of "24," told EW. ”There is talk about re-approaching it. I understand (director/producer) Tony Scott is meeting with Kiefer to talk about ideas. People are still talking about it.”

This may be heresy, but we never really got on board with "24," and we can't help but think that part of the show's appeal/gimmick was it's real-time narrative. Watching a guy try to save the world for 24 hours straight is a pretty great hook--what are they gonna call the movie version, "24: 108 Minutes"?

In any event, Jack Bauer fans needn't worry too much, as this film is sure to happen eventually. You could even argue that this is good news, an indication that Fox doesn't want to make a naked cash grab by trotting out any old thing.
