Hines Ward Detained in Stolen Car Mix-Up

Authorities say the car's driver reported her vehicle stolen April 19, but never canceled the report after she found the vehicle

"Dancing with the Stars" hoofer and NFLer  Hines Ward was briefly detained early Thursday in North Hollywood after a mix-up that involved a report of a stolen vehicle.

Sgt. Maria Morrison said Ward and a female friend were stopped in her car at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday near Lankershim and Ventura because the woman reported it stolen, according to the Associated Press. The sergeant told the AP the driver reported the vehicle stolen on April 19 after forgetting where she had parked it.

She later found it but never canceled the report, so the vehicle was still listed as missing.

Morrison said Ward was taken from the car at gunpoint and handcuffed until the woman proved the car was hers. Ward, a Pittsburgh Steelers receiver and frontrunner for the mirrorball trophy on this season's "Dancing With the Stars," was cooperative, according to police.

The AP reported that the woman was not Ward's pro-partner on the ABC hit.

Ward and the woman were released at the scene.
