Police told NBC 5 the 29-year-old mother had dropped off the toddler and two other children Friday outside the Emerald Park Apartments in North Richland Hills and did not realize her 4-year-old daughter had wandered in front of the SUV.

Brionne McChriston was struck in the parking lot of the building in the 8300 block of Emerald Hills Way just before 7:30 p.m.

The child was transported by air ambulance to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, according to Keith Bauman, with North Richland Hills police. She later died from her injuries.

Police said the incident is under investigation, but were treating it as an accident.

No charges have been filed against the mother.
