Officials at the University of Virginia apologized Tuesday to victims of sexual assault and said they were "appalled" by an alleged 2012 gang rape at a fraternity house there that was first publicized in a Rolling Stone article. "I’d like to say to [the victim] and her parents I am sorry, and to all survivors of sexual assault, I am sorry," the rector of the university's Board of Visitors said at a public meeting with student leaders. School officials said they would work to toughen the school's stance against sexual violence while also "maximizing opportunities" for prosecution.
