Actor Vince Vaughn to Take Chicago Polar Plunge

Vaughn accepted the challenge after a successful social media campaign using the hashtag #VinnyDippin

Actor Vince Vaughn will be the latest celebrity to jump into an icy Lake Michigan to raise money for Special Olympics.

Special Olympics Chicago announced Saturday that Vaughn will take the Chicago Polar Plunge on March 1. The longtime Chicago Blackhawks fan and Lake Forest native will wear his Blackhawks jersey for the event.

In a statement, Vaughn says he's "so excited to help cheer on the amazing athletes of Special Olympics."

Vaughn accepted the challenge after a successful social media campaign by Special Olympics Chicago used the hashtag #VinnyDippin to convince the actor to join the cause.

Vaughn is the star of movies including "Wedding Crashers" and "Old School." His upcoming film "Unfinished Business" opens March 6.

The polar plunge is Special Olympics Chicago's largest fundraiser.

Last year comedian Jimmy Fallon helped raise more than $1 million at the event. Fallon jumped into Lake Michigan wearing a suit and tie.
