A new poll by a conservative-backed organization released Monday found Governor Rick Scott leading former Governor Charlie Crist 42-38 percent in a hypothetical general election matchup in November.
The poll appears to be an outlier of other polling which has found Crist with a sizable lead heading into the summer. In recent polling, SurveyUSA found Crist with a 3 point lead, Rasmussen Reports gave Crist a 6 point lead and Quinnipiac University pegged Crist’s lead at 10 points.
A Huffpost/Pollster poll of polls pegged Crist’s lead at 4.4 points, 46.4 percent for Crist to 42 percent for Scott.
In addition, Quinnipiac found that by a 52-39 percent margin, Florida voters say Scott does not deserve to be re-elected.
The poll, conducted by McLaughlin & Associates, and paid for by the American Future Fund, found 53 percent approve of Scott’s job performance and by a 44-36 percent margin, view Governor Scott favorably. The AFF poll also said Crist’s unfavorable rating was in the negative by a 39-41 percent margin.
According to the Center for Responsive Politics, the American Future Fund “is a conservative-leaning organization that says ‘it works to promote conservative free market principles to the citizens of America.’
American Future raised $67.9 million in 2012 and 92 percent of the money came from the Center to Protect Patient Rights and Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce, both of which are tied to the Koch brothers, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.
