A tumor found in the brain of Miami-Dade Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz was benign, doctors said Monday.
The brain tumor was discovered after Diaz complained to a friend about a series of severe headaches he was suffering from. A May 23 test revealed the tumor and doctors operated immediately.
"I am thankful to God and relieved that I have been given a clean bill of health from my doctor after what has been a very trying time for me and my family," Diaz said in a statement.
The commissioner was home recovering since May 26.
Doctors said Diaz does not require further treatment.
