Dick on Crist: You Can't Trust This

Former Vice President wants Marco Rubio for Senate

At this point the only person that will endorse Gov. Charlie Crist for U.S. Senate is his wife, and we're told even she is on the fence.

After pretty much the entire state GOP threw their support to Miami-native Marco Rubio while also throwing large stones at Crist, now the nation's top Republicans are bashing the governor.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney, who no one has heard from in decades (that's including his time in the White House) has endorsed Marco Rubio in Florida's GOP Senate primary, saying Gov. Charlie Crist can't be trusted to stand up to President Barack Obama's agenda.

"Charlie Crist cannot be trusted even to remain a Republican," Cheney said in a statement. No word if he snarled after writing those words.

Technically, he's right. Crist has admitted he is pondering a run as an independent, which most analysts feel is his only way to become a U.S. senator. The Grand Canyon-sized gap between Rubio and Crist is only getting wider as backlash from Crist's recent veto of a Republican-sponsored teacher pay bill continues to make waves in Tallahassee.

Republicans want Crist to gracefully bow out of the race altogether, but needling him at every turn probably isn't the best way to get it done. And sicking an old dog on a beaten horse can't be helpful.

Sticking it to the GOP might become Crist's motivator at this point.
