Florida Doctor Tied to NJ Sen. Menendez Due Back in Court

A Florida doctor charged with corruption alongside New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez is due back in court.

Dr. Salomon Melgen is to appear before a federal judge Friday in West Palm Beach to determine whether he should remain jailed three weeks after being arrested in a separate case of Medicare fraud.

Prosecutors have argued the 60-year-old ophthalmologist is a flight risk. Melgen has pleaded not guilty in the 76-count fraud case, in which he's accused of falsely diagnosing patients with serious eye conditions that allowed him to then perform unnecessary and costly procedures.

He's also pleaded not guilty in the separate New Jersey case that claims the doctor traded donations, flights and vacations for favors from Menendez.
