2022 NFL regular season matchups between brothers originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The NFL is a family business.

For most, making the league is a pipedream, achieved by less than 2% of college athletes. A lucky few families get the privilege of enjoying that success multiple times. On rare occasions, those families find themselves in a house divided with players on opposite teams. 

While the days of the Mannings and Harbaughs are a thing of the past, the NFL maintains a long-standing tradition of sibling matchups. For the first time, a family feud will take place in the Super Bowl.

Jason Kelce of the Philadelphia Eagles and Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs will become the first brothers to face off in a Super Bowl. They’ve already met on an NFL field before, but ultimate bragging rights – and the Lombardi Trophy – are up for grabs in Arizona.

Before the Kelce Bowl gets underway, here’s a look at some of the fraternal matchups from earlier in the 2022 season:

Nick Martin vs. Zack Martin, Week 4 and Week 18

The NFC East kicked things off with matchups between Dallas Cowboys offensive guard Zack Martin and Washington Commanders center Nick Martin. 

The Martin brothers shared a sideline together at Notre Dame but have gone their separate ways since Nick entered the league in 2016, two years after his older brother. 

While Zack is undoubtedly the more decorated player at this point in his career, boasting eight Pro-Bowl nods and six All-Pro honors, the little brother has his number when it comes to head-to-head matchups. In Nick’s four seasons in Houston, the Texans only faced the Cowboys once, winning 19-16. Nick then spent the 2021 season with the Las Vegas Raiders and recorded a 36-33 overtime win at Jerry World.

Zack’s Cowboys defeated Nick’s Commanders 25-10 in Week 4, but Nick got some payback when Washington trounced Dallas in Week 18.

Tremaine Edmunds vs. Terrell Edmunds, Week 5

Pittsburgh Steelers safety Terrell Edmunds visited Buffalo on Oct. 9 to face his brother, Bills linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. 

They entered the league together in 2018, and Tremaine now leads the brotherly series 3-1 after the Bills’ blowout win in 2022. The Steelers’ defense was torched for 38 points, including 31 in the first half, while the Bills’ defense suffocated the Steelers and allowed just three points.

Dalvin Cook vs. James Cook, Week 10

Week 10 was supposed to feature three brotherly matchups, beginning with the Minnesota Vikings’ Dalvin Cook facing the Buffalo Bills’ James Cook.

Older brother Dalvin is an established NFL star – he’s a four-time Pro Bowler and played his sixth season in Minnesota. Younger brother James, a rookie, is trying to make a name for himself after being drafted in the second round of the 2022 draft.

Considering the four-year age gap between Dalvin and James, the Cook brothers had never faced off in an organized football game until the Vikings won a thrilling overtime game in Buffalo. They attended the same high school in Miami, but Dalvin graduated in 2014, just before James began as a freshman. Dalvin played at Florida State from 2014 to 2016, while James suited up for Georgia from 2018 to 2021.

Equanimeous St. Brown and Amon-Ra St. Brown, Week 10 and Week 17

Sibling rivalry is familiar territory for Equanimeous and Amon-Ra St. Brown. The two brothers, just over three years apart, have spent much of their football careers cheering for different teams. 

While Equanimeous enjoyed a standout career at Servite High School in Anaheim, Calif., Amon-Ra opted to blaze his own trail by joining forces with rival Mater Dei. Four years later, the younger St. Brown once again spurned his brother’s alma mater, committing to USC over Notre Dame.

They’ve continued this friendly rivalry into the NFL. In their one 2021 meeting, Equanimeous’ Packers came out victorious over Amon-Ra’s Lions, despite the younger brother securing three catches for 18 yards in the loss. 

Equanimeous is no longer taking snaps alongside Aaron Rodgers, instead joining forces with the Chicago Bears. As if fated to be on opposing sidelines, these two faced off in a pair of NFC North showdowns in the second half of the season, with Equanimeous’ Lions sweeping the season series.

Joey Bosa vs. Nick Bosa, Week 10

One highly anticipated family showdown didn’t happen, as Joey Bosa missed his Los Angeles Chargers’ Week 10 Sunday Night Football matchup against younger brother Nick and the San Francisco 49ers due to a groin injury.

The Bosa brothers haven’t shared a field together in nearly a decade, despite being in the league together four years and playing a mere 380 miles apart. Both brothers attended Ohio State, but they narrowly missed each other when Joey declared for the draft ahead of his senior season.
