Cishek Slams Door As Marlins Finally Top Mets

The Marlins beat the Mets for the first time in six tries this season with a 4-3 win

Steve Cishek redeemed himself by closing out the Miami Marlins 4-3 win over the New York Mets on Tuesday.

In five previous games this season, the Mets were victorious when taking on the Marlins. In four of those contests, Miami held the lead only to see it slip away.

The Marlins held a 3-0 lead heading into the seventh inning when the bullpen once again faltered. A.J. Ramos was the man on the mound this time when New York posted three runs. This came only one day after Cishek allowed three runs of his own in the ninth.

Miami had more time to rebound from the letdown in this one and took advantage of that. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Mike Morse singled home Martin Prado with the game-winning run. Cishek would take the ball in the ninth and held the Mets scoreless for his second save of the year.

The Marlins scored their other three runs in the sixth inning with contributions from Giancarlo Stanton and J.T. Realmuto. Stanton and Realmuto each singled home a run while a wild pitch plated Marcell Ozuna. Stanton now has 18 runs batted in on the season which leads the team.

David Phelps started the game for Miami and remained productive with six strong innings. Phelps gave up two runs on seven hits for a quality start. The right-hander was on his way to a win until Ramos allowed the aforementioned runs. The two runs charged to Phelps were both inherited by Ramos.

The Marlins will look for a series win on Wednesday when they send Mat Latos to the mound.
